Kendra McKinley’s inventive new EP, ‘Where Does A Body Begin?’ is a heady blend of modern jazz, neo-soul, R&B and alt. pop influences. As a courtesy to her listeners, Kendra provided some helpful listening notes: I’d recommend listening to this album while wearing a robe, brushing your teeth in the shower, braiding hair, smoking weed with your bra off, making out, drenched in sun, drenched in salt water, feeding grapes to your crush. I’d recommend this record while you’re cleaning your room, or staining a blank page with ink, or hidden under a pile of sheets fresh out of the dryer. I’d recommend this record as a companion for introspection, or as an incantation for connection. Where Does The Body Begin?’ is the second EP from the Californian who is now based in New York. Known for her sensual melodies, avant pop sensibility and strong vocals, Kendra McKinley is a […]

Moving on from the 60’s style Psych-Pop of their last few singles, in their newest single “Hiding From” the mysterious duo King Complex leans into a dreamy 80’s inspired synth driven sound a-la Tame Impala and Empire Of The Sun. In their own words: I think it speaks to both our personalities heavily, in terms of wanting to withdraw from the world in some ways, while also being heavily emotionally tied to others. This masked Florida duo gained significant success from their single, “Dark Disco” which garnered over a million streams on Spotify. Always changing up their sound but exploring retro vibes from the past, this band’s ambiguous style continues to evolve. Although you might have no idea what they look like, you’ll never forget their sound!

In her latest single “LOZER (feat. A Z)”, EMM delivers a powerful performance and creative fusion of Pop and Phonk. Full of dynamic elements, EMM worked with producer Jason Mater to create a track that highlights the underground genre which connects gaming, comics, and electronic music. Lyrically, I wrote LOZER (With A Z) about losing fear of what others think. I’ve never really fit in and I’ve had to learn to accept and celebrate myself as I am. The song is funny and lighthearted (“I heard she used to sniff sharpies”) and self deprecating (“I’m such a fucking loser”), but also recognizing the empowerment and freedom in self acceptance (“I love the way I am cause I’m a God damn star). A multi-instrumentalist, producer, songwriter and four-octave vocalist, EMM isn’t your traditional LA pop singer. She’s unapologetic, fierce and thrives as a self-made independent artist. With over 100 million streams […]
