In his new single “Las canciones que dejé” (“The songs that I left”), Colombian artist/producer Curvelo James taps into the nostalgia behind music and how those memories can connect us to special people and things from our past. With bright guitars and Curvelo’s signature emotional vocal delivery, this mid-tempo reggaeton track entrances you in an enchanting groove. When Puerto Rican rap and Reggaeton first arrived on the scene in Colombia, a 13 year old Curvelo James began his musical journey. After gaining recognition from prominent local producers DJ Numa and DJ Kano, he joined their independent company “Los que Zumban”, also known as “The Monsters Ink”. Since then he’s been hard at work mastering his craft as a producer, lifting up local rap talent from his hometown of Barranquilla.

In the Caribbean coastal city of Barranquilla, Colombia there’s a movement of freestyle rap battles where up and coming rappers get together to spit fire and make a name for themselves. The best of the best inevitably end up in Flowkillas Studios, working with Curvelo James. Curvelo and his partner Morley de Moya have been hosting the Freestyle Barranquilla competition for five years, inspired by the pro freestyle league Urban Roosters which originated in Spain but quickly spread throughout Latin America.
