Eddy Braveaux has been honing his craft for over a decade, developing a unique hip hop aesthetic he calls “dream trap”. Born Edward Ebri to Nigerian immigrants in Jacksonville, FL, Eddy is a proud first generation American. With grit and determination he’s built a reputation for himself not just as a talented rapper, but also a producer, recording engineer and graphic designer. A true independent creative. Braveaux’s style is heavily influenced by martial arts and video games, built around dense beats and employing sly, incisive wordplay. Throughout his career he’s mostly remained a solo artist, but recently he decided to branch out and start doing features and collaborations. This includes his new single “INCOMING”, featuring an early member of XXXTentacion’s infamous hip hop collective Member’s Only, Miami rapper Fukkit. “INCOMING” has a mellow swagger to it, with Braveaux laying back in the cut and unleashing Fukkit to provide contrast with […]
Enter the Päterverse. An accomplished actor, writer, director and recording artist performing under the moniker Päter, Parmida Kakavand’s unique style of songwriting navigates themes like self-discovery and mental health with an irreverent, lighthearted touch. So it was no surprise that the brilliant lead single “Dam, Damn” from the self-produced EP “SOLE” received well over 300k streams on Spotify. Quite the achievement for a debut release. It’s also what caught our ears, it’s just a damn good song! Following on the heels of that initial success, this past week Päter released a powerful follow-up single “Earth In Revolt”, a frenetic climate action anthem that the world needs to hear. “I wrote this song when I was driving down the highway early in the pandemic and there was this massive, orange sunset filling up the whole horizon. It felt like nature flaunting its ability to reclaim itself. That’s where the “Earth in […]
Amidst the most turbulent year in living memory, “Still Wandering” by Bronze Radio Return is an inspiring ray of light. The song delivers the positive message that despite the despair that comes from being on an uncertain path, a healthy sense of wonderment always keeps life interesting and new. “I think this song speaks to those who are out there searching for something different or better, and being open to change along the way. This band has endured a lot of change and challenges over the years, yet we’re always excited for the future, and as we open the next chapter, we approach it with more wisdom, but the same drive we had over a decade ago when we were getting started. We’re still keeping on, and still wandering.” – Rob Griffith Though a stripped-down sentimental ballad, the song still manages to deliver the band’s signature big choruses. The layered […]
On the heels of their incredible new album “Sex”, Los Angeles three-piece No Suits is back with another funky new single entitled “Ice Cold”. Effortlessly blending together elements of indie psych-rock, hip hop and funky retro R&B as though it were a frozen piña colada, the song features not one, but two impeccable guitar solos. And let’s be honest, very few bands can pull off even one decent guitar solo these days. The accompanying music video is the perfect complement to a jam like “Ice Cold”, a fixed-camera stroll through an epic house party complete with booty shaking, red solo cups and a couple dudes making out: Since signing with Bodega Sync, No Suits has had their music licensed by MINI Cooper, Gold Bond and NFL on Fox. With a string of successful collaborations with emerging indie rappers like Abhi The Nomad and Kota The Friend, the band’s exceptionally slick […]
As covered in a recent LA Times feature, Chris Mann is an impressively multifaceted talent. You might remember him from his stint on “The Voice”, or perhaps his starring role in Phantom Of The Opera, or most recently from his viral parody videos which entertained millions worldwide. But none of that holds a candle to Chris’s amazing new Pop/R&B record “Noise”. “I was inspired to create a new sound for “Noise” that really encompasses what I love most about pop music— classic, hooky melodies, urban beats, vintage horns, and honest lyrics that speak to where I am right now in life, love, and the times.” Working with a cadre of incredible talent including Ca$h Clay Beats, India.Arie, Ian Barter, Willy Beaman and Thomas Daniel, this album blends a healthy dose of 90’s throwback R&B a la Justin Timberlake with a ton of other influences pulled from Mann’s diverse musical experiences. […]
Like so many kids growing up poor in the NYC projects, two clear options were laid before Miguel Cespedes, better known as TruRebel Migs. Pursue a life of crime in the streets, or plan an escape route through music. And it was the latter which brought this brilliant young rapper out to Los Angeles to record his EP “Lust, Love & War – Detox & Quarantine | Part 1”. From the very first hit of the opening track “Needs” you immediately get drawn into a dark, swirling vortex with a bit of a menacing vibe. With lyrical themes of sex, drugs, violence and street life, it’s very much what you’d expect from a rap record. But Migs delivers real emotion in his voice that you can really feel. His elevated sense of phrasing, melody, wordplay and imagery set him apart from most rappers. The production on the record is notable […]
“In And Through The Body”, the brilliant new record by Trevor Hall invokes self-examination by exploring themes such as struggle, growth, and redemption. Produced by Brad Cook (Bon Iver, the War on Drugs, Hiss Golden Messenger) this album sees him taking bold chances with his music while staying true to his core values. Hall uses a palette of genres that span from folk, roots-rock and electronic, all with a consistent wash of authentic far-Eastern influence. “As an artist I’ve always received songs about abstract things. One of the reasons that I love music so much is that I can enter any world, and sometimes I’d write about things that I couldn’t explain in words but were a feeling. I would tend to push away human emotions because I thought they weren’t as worthy as these abstract states. But this album is called “In And Through The Body”. It’s about entering […]
“Round Town”, the pensive new single from Brooklyn native Adrian Daniel is about dealing with heartbreak and how it can put you in an emotional loop, causing a constant internal battle with our thoughts. The track features artist/producer Asiah and was co-produced by Dutch producers Loot & Manoah Hoff. Adrian Daniel has an earnest R&B/Pop sound nestled between emotive lush vocals and an airy falsetto that commands one’s attention. In just four short years, he’s achieved millions of Spotify streams and has been shown love from the likes of Billboard, TIDAL Rising, Vibe, DJ Booth, The Fader, Audiomack, EarMilk, The Source, Highsnobiety and Clash. Recently recognized by QuestLove’s Okayplayer as a top R&B/Neo-Soul artist and shouted out by BET as a fast rising talent in the genre, Adrian Daniel has positioned himself as a true contender and an artist to watch.
Nashville duo Adrian + Meredith have always marched to their own beat, pounding the pavement and putting their own spin on Americana. Their music embodies the spirit of the human story with a nod to punk, the heart of folk, flavor of Polka, and bounce of swing. What started as a Klezmer tune, turned into a full rock and roller, their new single “Even” is a processing moment as we continue to watch both sides of the political spectrum cut off their noses to spite their face. With social media allowing for a lack of accountability in confrontation, this song is an observation of the obsession with false justice and “getting even” as opposed to true conversation and healthy debate. Four years since their debut release, Adrian + Meredith take their fearless, blistering, and Balkan-tinged Americana to new heights on their sophomore record, Bad for Business, a raucous, rebellious and […]
Musician, songwriter, and producer Meg Toohey returns with her emotional new single “Lucky Streak”, written in response to the tragic news that her friend Nick Cordero had passed away from COVID-19. Within an hour of sitting down with her guitar she had a full demo together that she sent over to her fellow bandmates from the musical Waitress. Meg thought if they all recorded it together it would be a beautiful way to send their love to Nick’s wife Amanda. Of course everyone was on board, including her longtime friend Sara Bareilles, whose gorgeous harmonies elevated the emotional weight of the tribute. The single will officially be released a week from today on October 13th. Meg Toohey got her start in the Boston music scene, writing and performing alongside artists like Lori McKenna and Josh Ritter. While living in L.A. she worked as a touring musician, playing with the indie […]
